Course Description

The Infection Control for License Renewal course is designed to meet requirements of the Dental Board of California for instruction by adhering to the California Code of Regulations 1005 - Dental Board of California Infection Control Regulations. This course meets the mandate for license renewal of all California dental license holders and is Dental Board of California approved and is the infection control course required for license renewal for DDS, RDH and RDA. This course does not meet the new 8 hour Infection Control education requirement for unlicensed dental assistants.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. List and define important terms in Infection Control.
  2. Describe diseases like Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, and AIDS.
  3. Give the reasons for immunization against the Hepatitis B Virus.
  4. Describe correct aseptic technique for dental procedures.
  5. List the steps in correct instrument processing to achieve sterility.

About the Author

Dr. Howard J. Pactovis, D.M.D.

Dr. Howard Pactovis is the Founder and Executive Director of Dynamic Dental Safety, a safety and risk prevention company, dedicated solely to the provision of services for the dental community.

Previously, he was Senior Compliance officer and sales director in the dental market. Duties include training of employees and health professionals on-site in disease processes, infection control, and safety issues. He also developed and implemented JCAHO and NCQA programs.
